Former Hurlstone Principal, Mr Reg Clarke, passed away on Sunday 14th March 2010 at 3.30 pm.
His son, Peter, recalled that his father was always passionate about his old school, often interrupting conversations about education with recollections of his time at Hurlstone.
Reginald Clarke was the sixth Principal of Hurlstone and the last of an all-boys school. He graduated B.Science Agriculture from Sydney University in 1939 and began his career as an Assistant teacher for nine years at Muswellbrook High School. He was a teacher of Agriculture at Hurlstone in 1950-51 before becoming a Subject Master at MacLean Intermediate High School on the North Coast and later Deputy Principal of Yanco Agricultural High. He was Principal of Broken Hill High School, the largest school in NSW for four years before moving to Hurlstone as Principal in 1968. He retired from teaching at the end of 1978.
The original Principal's residence at Hurlstone was named Clarke House in honour of Reg in the 1980s.
