Ever wondered what might have been going on within the walls of the big black curtain? To naive at the time to really think about it, but now that I'm older and wiser .... (Obviously, I don't know what it is like now as it is quite awhile since I attended HAHS, but they were great school dances, in my humble opinion!)

You were lucky!

I was in the last boys only year at HAHS. Our dances were CRAP!

(Borders are so clumsy!)

This story relates to a class play performed in the old hall behind the tuck shop. Second form I think it was around 1974 when Brant Bradley accidentally strangled himself in a noose that was a prop in the play. He was revived by classmates but he was never the same after the incident. Last heard he had allegedly committed the most serious of crimes in NT well after leaving school.

Dances are quite dead at the school now, being a current student im sad to say that as far as discos/dances go there are none. the teachers make it near impossible to organise one. I wish that we could invite other schools so that they didnt think that we are snobs lol.

Dear Tinyspoon,

Take charge of your education and your life. Get it happening. Find schools and ring them yourself - say you are a student rep of some sort. Get the ball rolling. In my day I remember the films mostly. Well what happened under blankets. Some teachers could turn a blind eye. Luckily - precious moments.

He was revived by classmates
I think he was saved by Terry Rushton

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember any dances during the time of my incarceration '72 - '77... other than the 6th form farewell!

PS... story about Brant Bradley and his accident is correct (can't vouch for the NT crime though).

I seem to remember my sister organising a group of girls to go to a dance in the gym in about 1975

We had good dances in the late 50's. We used to invite the girls from Burwood Girls High to come out by train to Glenfield. I seemed to do alright, but then the principal's daughter Jenny was one of the girls... and of course she lived on the premises. Anyone else remember those days?

About the only dance in the gym I remember would have been in 78?,
cant remember if the girls there, were hurlstone girls yet, or if they were imported, and one of the teachers, grabbed me and stuck his tongue down my throat, and then butst out laughing. cant remember his name exactly, but he was really short, and if you know me, thats saying something. think he was just about the drunkest one there

PS... story about Brant Bradley and his accident is correct (can't vouch for the NT crime though).

Brant is my brother and the crime he commited was the murder of his two young children in darwin 1983. he also shoot himself but lived. He was never tried for murder due to being unfit to stand trial because of the head injuries he substained in the shooting. We no longer have contact with him.
I was told at the time of the hanging incident that it was an accident but I have always thought he may have attempted suicide.

let's face it, any contact with girls was welcome at 17. I recall my cousin from Mt. Pritchard bringing some girlfreinds to our dance and Slim's sister from Thirlmere doing the same. The noted "chickmagnets" in our year were definitely on fire. definitely "legends in their own lunchbox"
