For those of you who may not know, Alfie Newman died in Cairns in February this year. I visited him when I was staying with family up there last October, Alf had been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. So those teachers who confiscated our ciggies were doing us a favour, although we probably didn’t think so at the time.
