Final Arrangements for our Centenary Thanksgiving Service.

The centenary thanksgiving service and centenary walkway dedication set down for this Sunday, the 1st of April. The centenary is special event in Hurlstone’s History.  The Pavers have been put in place and the walkway is taking shape.  We have included here some of the final arrangements for your information.  We are expecting in excess of 1500 people to attend on this occasion.

1.       Weather – We are expecting a fine day where we can enjoy the service and entertainment outside in the area around the walkway and near Clarke House.

2.       Below is a location map of the school indicating amongst other things, where to enter for parking.  (We have created two separated parking areas, a general area and a disabled parking area.)  Students and staff will be located at key points as your drive into the school to ensure you are guided in the right direction.

3.       Drinks and food will be on sale throughout the morning leading up to the service and for a short time after the service.  This includes an international food stall and a sausage/steak and egg & bacon roll stall.   However, we are encouraging visitors to come early, bring a picnic basket and select your favourite spot!

4.       There will be a wide variety of memorabilia items for sale throughout the day including the Centenary book.  A number of other stalls will operate, including:

a.    a student heritage group,
b.   year 9 visual history stand - opportunity to record your memories of Hurlstone,
c.   Hurlstone Foundation,
d.    student academic work,
e.   the special living conditions of boarding students in 2007.

Gates and displays will open at 10.30am.  Student performances will commence at 12.30pm.  We ask that guests be seated by 1.15pm.  The service should conclude by 2.45pm.  Afternoon tea will be available for all guests following the service as you browse the exhibits.

On arrival, paver purchases should collect their certificate and name tag from the students who will be situated somewhere near the pool.

This special event is open to all current and ex-students, staff, family and friends, (irrespective of whether a paver has been purchased or not) and will be held in the area outside Clarke House (formerly The Principal's Residence) If the weather is unfavourable, the service will be held in the school hall.

Thank you to all who have sponsored a paver for the Centenary Walkway. Over 1,200 pavers were purchased.  Orders have now closed for the centenary celebration but have been reopened to prvide a continual development of the walkway for the years to come.

The Walkway has been constructed between the Administration block and Clarke House.  It features an “aged” mouldboard plough as a centre sculpture.  This area is to be further landscaped with selected plants and seating, making it very attractive and useful for formal occasions.

The Centennial Book, written by Mr A Pollock of the History Faculty will also be launched on this day. Copies will be available for sale at $25.00.  Those unable to attend any of the Centenial functions will have the oportunity to order a book. (Postage cost to be advised)
